WEDNESDAY OF THE TWENTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Lk 6:20-26 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

"Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way." (Lk 6:26)

READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians

1 Cor 7:25-31

Brothers and sisters:

In regard to virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord,

but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.

So this is what I think best because of the present distress:

that it is a good thing for a person to remain as he is.

Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek a separation.

Are you free of a wife? Then do not look for a wife.

If you marry, however, you do not sin,

nor does an unmarried woman sin if she marries;

but such people will experience affliction in their earthly life,

and I would like to spare you that.

I tell you, brothers, the time is running out.

From now on, let those having wives act as not having them,

those weeping as not weeping,

those rejoicing as not rejoicing,

those buying as not owning,

those using the world as not using it fully.

For the world in its present form is passing away.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

from the Gospel according to Luke

Lk 6:20-26

Raising his eyes toward his disciples Jesus said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,

for the Kingdom of God is yours.

Blessed are you who are now hungry,

for you will be satisfied.

Blessed are you who are now weeping,

for you will laugh.

Blessed are you when people hate you,

and when they exclude and insult you,

and denounce your name as evil

on account of the Son of Man.

Rejoice and leap for joy on that day!

Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.

For their ancestors treated the prophets

in the same way.

But woe to you who are rich,

for you have received your consolation.

But woe to you who are filled now,

for you will be hungry.

Woe to you who laugh now,

for you will grieve and weep.

Woe to you when all speak well of you,

for their ancestors treated the false

prophets in this way.”

WEDNESDAY OF THE TWENTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Lk 6:20-26

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear people of God,

In the Word of God in today's Gospel, God wants to tell everyone about the blessings and woes, and He gives instructions for people to know and choose to follow the good path or the bad path.

God is a merciful Father, He gives the blessings which are good things for people to practice. He points out the woes which are the woes so that everyone must know and avoid them; whoever has fallen into that bad path, please return to God, do not continue to follow the woes.

God says that only God is the only supreme Being that people need to seek. All material things and worldly wealth are only temporary, fleeting, and will no longer exist when God calls each person out of this world. It is just a means for us to use to help share with others, they are the provisions to help people enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Today's Word of God invites people: to run to God, obey and carry out His commands, love, support and share with each other. Look at the example of Jesus Christ, God, the richest One who dared to give up everything, accepting to become poor to sympathize, share and help the poor, the sick, and to free those who are imprisoned by Satan. God never puts material things above all things, but He needs people to live according to the image of the good people that God created, that is a good, holy person, and who has a heart that knows how to love everyone.

Through the blessings and woes in today's Gospel, God calls all of His children:

-Return to God, live in love, charity, share with your fellow human beings, especially help the poor and miserable in society.

-Be like Christ in all places, at all times and in all circumstances, because only He is the perfect example for everyone to learn and follow.

-Do not exalt the material things of the world but exalt the love for God and others; because only God's commandment of love can bring true happiness to people, and is the path that leads people to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Today, God calls everyone: to follow God's commandments, not to stray from His teachings, to walk on the path of the cross that Jesus Christ has gone through. That is the path of love, full of thorns, obstacles and suffering, but that is the most pleasing thing to God that He calls everyone, every day: to walk the narrow path to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, because the wide and spacious path will lead people to destruction and separation from God. Thanks be to God. Amen.
