WEDNESDAY OF THE SIXTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Mt 13:1-9 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

"Some seed fell among thoms, and the thorns grew up and choked it. Some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit." (Mt 13:7-8)

READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Book of the prophet Jeremiah

Jer 1:1, 4-10

The words of Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah,

of a priestly family in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin.

The word of the LORD came to me thus:

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

before you were born I dedicated you,

a prophet to the nations I appointed you.

“Ah, Lord GOD!” I said,

"I know not how to speak; I am too young.”

But the LORD answered me,

Say not, “I am too young.”

To whomever I send you, you shall go;

whatever I command you, you shall speak.

Have no fear before them,

because I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.

Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying,

See, I place my words in your mouth!

This day I set you

over nations and over kingdoms,

To root up and to tear down,

to destroy and to demolish,

to build and to plant.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Matthew

Mt 13:1-9

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.

Such large crowds gathered around him

that he got into a boat and sat down,

and the whole crowd stood along the shore.

And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying:

“A sower went out to sow.

And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path,

and birds came and ate it up.

Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.

It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep,

and when the sun rose it was scorched,

and it withered for lack of roots.

Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.

But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit,

a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.

Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

The Word of God today tells everyone about the Word of God being sown in every soul through the parable of the sower.

The seed is the Word of God sown and given to everyone, in every situation and in many different environments.

The image of seeds being sown into the ground: meaning that in each person's soul is a piece of land created by God. And He sowed the seed of His Word into each person's heart. Whether or not each soul accepts God's word depends on the power of the seeds growing in the ground.

The image of seeds being scattered on the roadside, and birds coming to take them away. They are the people who listen to God's Word, but then let Satan take it away, so their souls cannot be close to God any more.

The seed that is dropped on gravel and has very little soil. The seed that is the Word of God in the soul will also grow. However, that soul cannot fight the demons of Satan, so the Word will also be lost.

As for the seed that falls into the heart full of thorns, it will also grow. But because it is a place full of thorns, full of passion, glory and wealth, that person's soul is not close to God, the seed of the Word has been choked by Satan, there is no room for the Word to grow. Therefore, seed flowers cannot arise.

The seed that is sown on good soil. This is a place with absolutely no rocks and no thorns. It is a place where the seed of the soul does not accept wild animals, riches, thorns, pride, and passions. This is where souls who only know how to cultivate the Word of God will grow and gain strength, so they will bear many seeds. This is where the soul will receive the fullness of grace that God gives. And thanks to grace, the Word will produce good fruits, which are souls. Therefore, the seed that falls on good soil will gain many souls for God the Father.

Today's Word of God teaches everyone: If anyone believes and follows the Word of God, the Word will grow and develop in their soul and bear many spiritual fruits. The purpose of spirituality is to save many souls for God. On the contrary, whoever does not believe in His Word, the seed of the Word planted in that heart will die. Therefore, the fate of this soul will belong to Satan.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
