“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” (Lk 8:21)
FIRST READING: PRV 21:1-6, 10-13
A reading from the Book of Proverbs
Like a stream is the king’s heart in the hand of the LORD;
wherever it pleases him, he directs it.
All the ways of a man may be right in his own eyes,
but it is the LORD who proves hearts.
To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
Haughty eyes and a proud heart–
the tillage of the wicked is sin.
The plans of the diligent are sure of profit,
but all rash haste leads certainly to poverty.
Whoever makes a fortune by a lying tongue
is chasing a bubble over deadly snares.
The soul of the wicked man desires evil;
his neighbor finds no pity in his eyes.
When the arrogant man is punished, the simple are the wiser;
when the wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.
The just man appraises the house of the wicked:
there is one who brings down the wicked to ruin.
He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor
will himself also call and not be heard.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY: LK 8:19-21
From the Gospel according to Luke
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him
but were unable to join him because of the crowd.
He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside
and they wish to see you.”
He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers
are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
TUESDAY OF THE TWENTY-FIFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Lk 7:11-17)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
The Word of God in today's Gospel shows people the mighty power of God and the immense mercy towards His people.
It is because of God's deep mercy that He sees and feels the pain of people when they encounter extreme suffering. He never abandons people, like the image of the widow in the Gospel: She had an only son, and death took away her son's life. There is nothing more painful than losing the person you love, the person you consider the most precious in your life. Faced with the suffering of the widow, God showed His power and mercy, which is to bring her dead son back to life.
Through this, God wants to tell all people: God has full authority over human life. Whoever wants to have life, run to God. Because no one in this world has the power to restore the dead back to life like God. It is the power to make the dead come back to life that makes people fear, and praise and glorify God that Jesus is a great prophet who appeared in the world, and God has visited His people. Because from the past until now, no one has the power to make the dead come back to life like Him. That is why the people hailed Him as king, the God who came to the world to save people.
Therefore, the Word of God today calls people: whoever wants to have eternal life, run to God, make peace with Him, live and follow His teachings. Do not follow the temptations of the world, then you will have eternal happy life in the Kingdom of God.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
