THURSDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME - Mt 11:28-30 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest." (Mt 11:28)

READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Book of Isaiah

Is 26:7-9, 12, 16-19

The way of the just is smooth;

the path of the just you make level.

Yes, for your way and your judgments, O LORD,

we look to you;

Your name and your title

are the desire of our souls.

My soul yearns for you in the night,

yes, my spirit within me keeps vigil for you;

When your judgment dawns upon the earth,

the world's inhabitants learn justice.

O LORD, you mete out peace to us,

for it is you who have accomplished all we have done.

O LORD, oppressed by your punishment,

we cried out in anguish under your chastising.

As a woman about to give birth

writhes and cries out in her pains,

so were we in your presence, O LORD.

We conceived and writhed in pain,

giving birth to wind;

Salvation we have not achieved for the earth,

the inhabitants of the world cannot bring it forth.

But your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise;

awake and sing, you who lie in the dust.

For your dew is a dew of light,

and the land of shades gives birth.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Matthew

Mt 11:28-30

Jesus said:

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,

and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,

for I am meek and humble of heart;

and you will find rest for yourselves.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

THURSDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME - Mt 11:28-30

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

The Word of God today speaks of a God of love, a God who is the refuge and warming fire that warms every human soul. No one has a love as vast and immense as God. Only God the Father can bring happiness and peace to humankind. Therefore, God invites: "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest."

In this earthly life, many souls suffer from tiredness, loneliness, and depression. God the Father knows that every soul needs comfort, encouragement, and support. Therefore, He calls His children to come and rely on Him, to believe and trust absolutely in the love of God the Father to be protected, defended, preserved, and given peace; for Him to bestow love, joy, and happiness upon our souls.

He will bestow God's grace, the power of the Holy Spirit, upon each soul. And through the power of the Holy Spirit, that soul will be able to do everything according to God's desire. Those souls who have absolute faith and trust in God the Father's love, He will give His very love to that soul.

God calls everyone to come to Him. He will comfort us and give us the strength to carry out the work God has given us. He will also give us the strength to carry the cross and follow Jesus daily. God the Father said that those who fulfill our duties, being loyal, and faithful to the calling He gives us, then will be rewarded by Him with the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
