THURSDAY OF THE EIGHTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME - Mc 10:46-52 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

"Master, I want to see." (Mk 10:51)

READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Letter of Peter

1 Pt 2:2-5, 9-12

Beloved:

Like newborn infants, long for pure spiritual milk

so that through it you may grow into salvation,

for you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings

but chosen and precious in the sight of God,

and, like living stones,

let yourselves be built into a spiritual house

to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices

acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood,

a holy nation, a people of his own,

so that you may announce the praises of him

who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Once you were no people

but now you are God’s people;

you had not received mercy

but now you have received mercy.

Beloved, I urge you as aliens and sojourners

to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against the soul.

Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles,

so that if they speak of you as evildoers,

they may observe your good works

and glorify God on the day of visitation.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Mark

Mk 10:46-52

As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd,

Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus,

sat by the roadside begging.

On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth,

he began to cry out and say,

“Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.”

And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent.

But he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me.”

Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

So they called the blind man, saying to him,

“Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you.”

He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.

Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?”

The blind man replied to him, “Master, I want to see.”

Jesus told him, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.”

Immediately he received his sight

and followed him on the way.

THURSDAY OF THE EIGHTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME - Mc 10:46-52

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

The Word of God today tells everyone about the desire for the salvation of a man who was blind from birth. It was because of his faith in God and his desire to be saved and to see the light of God that this blind man courageously abandoned everything in the world and overcame all opposing barriers of those around him to loudly cry out to God: "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me."

This is what people today need to see and imitate the blind Bartimaeus to courageously abandon all that belongs to the world, to run to ask for God's mercy: ask Him to open our eyes, to open our ears, open our tongue so that we can cry out for the mercy of God so that we can open our mouth and tongue to praise and glorify Him, and so that we can do what God wants of us. Ask for God's mercy and forgive us all of the sins we have committed against God the Father so that His mercy can be shown to us in our bodies and souls. Thus, we were healed by God the Father in both bodies and souls.

In God's words today, God the Father wants to teach humanity :

Raise our eyes to God and cry out for His mercy, ask Him to have mercy on us, and ask Him to open our eyes to see God's salvation manifested in our own bodies and souls. From then on, we will have the courage to abandon the path of sin, to give up all that is flesh and worldly, so that our bodies and souls belong completely to God and follow Him.

The path that God the Father chooses and calls everyone is to walk on the path of God's light that He walked, which is the way of the Cross, and from that Cross, we will step into the glorious life in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Today, God calls everyone to have the courage to stand up and overcome difficulties and challenges to reach God the Father, like the blind Bartimaeus who courageously overcame the obstacles of others, stood up, and ran to God.

However, this blind man also had to rely on the help of those around him to reach God and ask for His mercy.

Likewise, God wants people in today's world to also need the help of our brothers and sisters, to unite with each other, to help each other walk the path that Jesus Christ has walked, that is the way of the Cross to reach the glorious life of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Thanks be to God. Amen
