“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” (Lk 11:28)
FIRST READING: GAL 3:22-29
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians
Brothers and sisters:
Scripture confined all things under the power of sin,
that through faith in Jesus Christ
the promise might be given to those who believe.
Before faith came, we were held in custody under law,
confined for the faith that was to be revealed.
Consequently, the law was our disciplinarian for Christ,
that we might be justified by faith.
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a disciplinarian.
For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus.
For all of you who were baptized into Christ
have clothed yourselves with Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither slave nor free person,
there is not male and female;
for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants,
heirs according to the promise.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY: LK 11:27-28
From the Gospel according to Luke
While Jesus was speaking,
a woman from the crowd called out and said to him,
“Blessed is the womb that carried you
and the breasts at which you nursed.”
He replied, “Rather, blessed are those
who hear the word of God and observe it.”
SATURDAY OF TWENTY-SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME-Gospel (Lk 11:27-28)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear people of God,
The Word of God in today's Gospel calls everyone to put listening, meditating, and practicing God's teachings above all other works.
For as He said: "Blessed are those
who hear the word of God and observe it."
Jesus came to earth to become a human being to accompany and be with humanity and to bring the words of God the Father to teach humankind that humans must obey and put into practice according to the teachings of God the Father.
Like Mary, who listened and followed God's words, through her saying "yes"; today, God calls everyone to follow her example, to know the value of listening, and to put into practice by living according to God's teachings; because practicing according to God's teachings always brings joy, happiness, peace and eternal life to humanity.
And when someone lives and puts into practice the teachings of God the Father, that person is pleasing God the Father, and that person will be called blessed.
As in today's Gospel, when the woman cried out: "Blessed is the womb that carried you
and the breasts at which you nursed,"
Jesus replied: "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
Therefore, put the words of God the Father above all else, and listen to and put into practice the teachings of God the Father by following the example of the Virgin Mary and of Jesus Christ, who obeyed God the Father to the point of accepting death, and death on the cross.
Thanks Be to God. Amen.
