NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B - John 6:41-51 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Updated: Aug 19

"Everyone who listens to My Father and learns from Him comes to Me." (Jn 6:45)

READING OF THE DAY

First reading from the First Book of Kings

1 Kgs 19:4-8

Elijah went a day's journey into the desert,

until he came to a broom tree and sat beneath it.

He prayed for death saying:

"This is enough, O LORD!

Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers."

He lay down and fell asleep under the broom tree,

but then an angel touched him and ordered him to get up and eat.

Elijah looked and there at his head was a hearth cake

and a jug of water.

After he ate and drank, he lay down again,

but the angel of the LORD came back a second time,

touched him, and ordered,

"Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you!"

He got up, ate, and drank;

then strengthened by that food,

he walked forty days and forty nights to the mountain of God, Horeb.

Second reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians

Eph 4:30—5:2

Brothers and sisters:

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,

with which you were sealed for the day of redemption.

All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling

must be removed from you, along with all malice.

And be kind to one another, compassionate,

forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.

So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love,

as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us

as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to John

Jn 6:41-51

The Jews murmured about Jesus because he said,

"I am the bread that came down from heaven, "

and they said,

"Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph?

Do we not know his father and mother?

Then how can he say,

'I have come down from heaven'?"

Jesus answered and said to them,

"Stop murmuring among yourselves.

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him,

and I will raise him on the last day.

It is written in the prophets:

They shall all be taught by God.

Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.

Not that anyone has seen the Father

except the one who is from God;

he has seen the Father.

Amen, amen, I say to you,

whoever believes has eternal life.

I am the bread of life.

Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;

this is the bread that comes down from heaven

so that one may eat it and not die.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven;

whoever eats this bread will live forever;

and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B - John 6:41-51

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

The Word of God today, God the Father calls all humanity to come and stay in the love and mercy of God the Father through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

The Only Begotten Son of God the Father is always with all mankind through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. God the Father wants all good things for humanity, so He has given these Words, then humanity should open its heart to listen and practice. Let's absolutely trust in the Word of Jesus Christ taught in today's Gospel. The Word of God is the truth, the Word of God has the power to bring eternal life to people, when people have absolute trust in the love and providence of God the Father.

Whoever has ears, then let them listen to the Word of God today: The Flesh and Blood of Jesus Christ is the reality. This divine food will nourish the soul of mankind in this earthly life. Therefore, whoever regularly receives the Body and Blood of the Lord with a pure soul, God will dwell in that person. God will bestow all blessings on that person and they will please God the Father, and will be strengthened by God the Father to fight against the evils that Satan brings. People should be awake and enter into the grace of God the Father's mercy through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Word of God the Father is the truth, and this is the sign of Love that God bestows to mankind so that those who believe and accept this truth will be happy in the Kingdom of Heaven in the future. God the Father calls people to believe in the words that Jesus Christ has taught today. The best things He has given to humanity, so that mankind can live happily with God. This is so that the human soul can be nourished by the full grace of the Body and Blood of the Lord. God the Father does not want the soul of humanity to be hungry for the Word of God, especially hungry for the Lord Himself which is His Body and Blood. The soul is the Spirit that God the Father created for mankind.

This is why, in order for human beings to become perfect before God the Father, He wants man to cleanse their bodies and souls with a pure life, with a life of love, and with forgiveness. Let's put aside hatred and jealousy to put on a new person, that is Jesus Christ, and open our hearts to receive God into ourselves. Through that, God's Spirit will nourish our soul and body to be filled with the grace and mercy of God the Father.

God the Father calls humanity to diligently run to Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. As He promised: “Whoever eats His bread and drinks His blood will live forever in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Today's Word of God, once again, God the Father calls everyone to return to God the Father, to repent of our sins so that He can cleanse our bodies and souls, cleanse our souls of all stains and sins to be worthy to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ as food to nourish us on the way to the House of the Father.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
