MONDAY OF THE EIGHTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Mk 10:17-27 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

"Go, sell what you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." (Mk 10:21)

READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Letter of Peter

1 Pt 1:3-9

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope

through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading,

kept in heaven for you

who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith,

to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time.

In this you rejoice, although now for a little while

you may have to suffer through various trials,

so that the genuineness of your faith,

more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire,

may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor

at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Although you have not seen him you love him;

even though you do not see him now yet you believe in him,

you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,

as you attain the goal of faith, the salvation of your souls.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Mark

Mk 10:17-27

As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up,

knelt down before him, and asked him,

"Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good?

No one is good but God alone.

You know the commandments: You shall not kill;

you shall not commit adultery;

you shall not steal;

you shall not bear false witness;

you shall not defraud;

honor your father and your mother."

He replied and said to him,

"Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth."

Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him,

"You are lacking in one thing.

Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor

and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."

At that statement, his face fell,

and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,

"How hard it is for those who have wealth

to enter the Kingdom of God!"

The disciples were amazed at his words.

So Jesus again said to them in reply,

"Children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God!

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle

than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God."

They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves,

"Then who can be saved?"

Jesus looked at them and said,

"For men it is impossible, but not for God.

All things are possible for God."

MONDAY OF THE EIGHTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Mk 10:17-27

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

God's Word today reminds people to aim for their ultimate goal. “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mark 10:17)

Jesus came to earth and became human to save people. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. His path of salvation is the path of the Cross: He had to give up all the glory in Heaven and came to earth to become a human, like a human being, except for his sins. He had to suffer, be condemned, and die. Then He rose again in the glory of God the Father.

In today's Gospel, God teaches everyone in the world to always aim for the ultimate goal of eternal life, and not just think about the pleasures of this world, because they do not exist. Keep God's commandments, practice the precepts of loving God, loving others, being charitable to others, being kind to our brothers and sisters, giving everything, and keeping nothing for ourselves. When we leave and return to God, we will not be able to bring anything because we entered this world with empty hands. Only our souls can be brought to the righteous judgment of the Most High God.

Therefore, everything God gives: money, wealth, and material things in this world is to serve people, not for people to be slaves to them. God warns everyone to seek treasure in heaven. It is eternal life that no one can take away. We must know how to love, know how to give and sacrifice ourselves like Jesus. He had to die to Himself to save humanity from the control of Satan.

Today Satan is raging all over the world. They control people, tempt people to become slaves to money and material things, so that people will worship them and forget God. God is the God of the poor, the abandoned, the forgotten. He understands how His children are treating the poor people of God the Father. The Spirit of the Holy Trinity covers wherever there are people living according to the instructions of God today. Therefore, God calls all members of the Church and society, especially the shepherds of God the Father: Seek eternal life, seek the holy Spirit of God, to take good care of the flock that God the Father has given you, care for each of the poor, do not just build great facilities and forget the hungry sheep in both soul and body, the sheep who are being trampled by fierce wolves.
