FRIDAY OF THE SEVENTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME - Mk 10:1-12 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Updated: Jun 7

"Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?" (Mk10:2)

READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Letter of James

Jas 5:9-12

Do not complain, brothers and sisters, about one another,

that you may not be judged.

Behold, the Judge is standing before the gates.

Take as an example of hardship and patience, brothers and sisters,

the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered.

You have heard of the perseverance of Job,

and you have seen the purpose of the Lord,

because the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

But above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear,

either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath,

but let your "Yes" mean "Yes" and your "No" mean "No,"

that you may not incur condemnation.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Mark

Mk 10:1-12

Jesus came into the district of Judea and across the Jordan.

Again crowds gathered around him and, as was his custom,

he again taught them.

The Pharisees approached him and asked,

"Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?"

They were testing him.

He said to them in reply, "What did Moses command you?"

They replied,

"Moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce

and dismiss her."

But Jesus told them,

"Because of the hardness of your hearts

he wrote you this commandment.

But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.

For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother

and be joined to his wife,

and the two shall become one flesh.

So they are no longer two but one flesh.

Therefore what God has joined together,

no human being must separate."

In the house the disciples again questioned Jesus about this.

He said to them,

"Whoever divorces his wife and marries another

commits adultery against her;

and if she divorces her husband and marries another,

she commits adultery."

FRIDAY OF THE SEVENTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME - Mk 10:1-12

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

In God's Word today, God teaches all those who are living a married and family life to be faithful to each other, to be monogamous, and to keep their commitment to each other for the rest of their lives. Only then can we please God and be blessed by Him.

For God the Father, everything He has spoken and combined can never be changed or separated. When a couple comes before God and signs together in the covenant of marriage, they become one flesh. This starts with God's mysterious will when He created humans. God the Father created a woman to be next to man, “This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called ‘woman,’for out of man this one has been taken.” (Genesis 2:23). When a man and a woman are united by God, He will bless their love. And they must love each other forever, yield to each other, forgive each other, they must sacrifice, accept each other with all their weaknesses and mistakes to become saints together right here on earth, together worshipping God above all things, and cooperating with Him in procreating children and raising them according to God's will.

The Bible tells us that from the beginning when people had not sinned, they lived in harmony with each other. They loved each other, joyfully devoted themselves to each other, and always had God in their midst. After Satan secretly intervened in human life, fallen humans committed the sin of disobeying God, and then there was separation, quarreling with each other, and alienation from God, voluntarily separating from Him and from each other. They followed Satan's advice and committed many crimes. The deceiver is very cunning. He attacks the moral and ethical foundation of families. They have openly created marriage institutions that are different from the natural order that God originally created, such as gay marriage. They break and destroy the bond of monogamous marriage, creating an evil of divorce and separation in families. Why so? Jesus explained in the Gospel: "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female."

God understands the suffering of families. He sent His Son to earth to save people, cleanse people from original sin, and perfect the Law, especially the law of marriage and family. He called on people to live in close association with each other, never to be separated from each other. Families, return to Him, listen to His teachings, and do not blindly follow Satan's path of separating from your own body, which means divorcing one's wife or husband and marrying another, or living with the same sex. This is done by Satan, not from God, and what does not come from God can never please Him, and can never be blessed by Him.

Thanks be to God. Amen
