FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B - Mk 6:7-13 - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

"Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them." (Mk 6:11)

READING OF THE DAY

First reading from the Book of Amos

Am 7:12-15

Amaziah, priest of Bethel, said to Amos,

“Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah!

There earn your bread by prophesying,

but never again prophesy in Bethel;

for it is the king’s sanctuary and a royal temple.”

Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet,

nor have I belonged to a company of prophets;

I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores.

The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me,

Go, prophesy to my people Israel.”

Second reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians

Eph 1:3-14 or 1:3-10

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who has blessed us in Christ

with every spiritual blessing in the heavens,

as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world,

to be holy and without blemish before him.

In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ,

in accord with the favor of his will,

for the praise of the glory of his grace

that he granted us in the beloved.

In him we have redemption by his blood,

the forgiveness of transgressions,

in accord with the riches of his grace that he lavished upon us.

In all wisdom and insight, he has made known to us

the mystery of his will in accord with his favor

that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of times,

to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth.

In him we were also chosen,

destined in accord with the purpose of the One

who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will,

so that we might exist for the praise of his glory,

we who first hoped in Christ.

In him you also, who have heard the word of truth,

the gospel of your salvation, and have believed in him,

were sealed with the promised holy Spirit,

which is the first installment of our inheritance

toward redemption as God’s possession, to the praise of his glory.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Mark

Mk 6:7-13

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two

and gave them authority over unclean spirits.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey

but a walking stick—

no food, no sack, no money in their belts.

They were, however, to wear sandals

but not a second tunic.

He said to them,

“Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave.

Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you,

leave there and shake the dust off your feet

in testimony against them.”

So they went off and preached repentance.

The Twelve drove out many demons,

and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B - Mk 6:7-13

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

In God's Word today, God the Father teaches His children that: He has complete authority over all humans. Whichever soul God the Father chooses to call into God the Father's work, to carry out His holy command, humankind cannot oppose that holy will being expressed in the people God the Father chooses to call. All opposition to God the Father's will on those whom God the Father appoints comes from Satan. Because Satan will oppose God the Father's command, oppose the way He commands, through the people He chooses in His work.

God the Father is just and righteous. He has full authority over the people He chooses. Therefore, wherever He places such a person, they should be humble, bow their heads thanking God, bow and obey as that pleases God the Father.

God the Father teaches people: that no one has complete authority over humans except God the Father. Wherever God the Father puts in place then humanity must absolutely obey. If they disobey the command given by God the Father, that person's body and soul will only follow the temptations of Satan. This is what God the Father calls people to be alert to, before the temptations of Satan. They will be steps which prevent all prophets from carrying out God the Father's command.

The mission in God the Father calls His prophets to is to preach the Gospel throughout the world, call people to repentance, heal all diseases and illnesses, and expel demons from the bodies and souls of others.

God the Father calls His chosen prophets: to follow the commandment through the example of Jesus Christ with a loving heart, and sacrifice themselves to serve others. That is the way to live that pleases God the Father, and that is the way that Satan must submit to.

God the Father calls people today to remember His teachings, to know how to deny themselves to serve others, and to love their fellow brothers and sisters like the Words of Jesus Christ, commanded His disciples in the past. The words that remain true till today and until the end of the world are: O all prophets of God the Father, all apostles of God the Father, go out boldly, preach the Gospel, call people to repent and return to God the Father and practice the path of justice, charity, love, heal all diseases and illnesses and drive out Satan.

In order to do what God the Father instructs, God the Father wants all creatures to open their hearts to receive the light of God's Word. His strength and power are manifested in those whom God sends, to sustain their souls and bodies.

God the Father also calls all His apostles and all prophets to live according to the example of God's only Son, Jesus Christ, through sacrificing ourselves by dying out the old self and living with a new person that is following the example of Jesus, the only Son of the Most High God the Father: loving and serving selflessly, giving freely and then dying for the one we love.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
