“Mary sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to Him speak.” (Lk 10:39)
FIRST READING: GAL 1:13-24
A reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Galatians
Brothers and sisters:
You heard of my former way of life in Judaism,
how I persecuted the Church of God beyond measure
and tried to destroy it,
and progressed in Judaism
beyond many of my contemporaries among my race,
since I was even more a zealot for my ancestral traditions.
But when he, who from my mother’s womb had set me apart
and called me through his grace,
was pleased to reveal his Son to me,
so that I might proclaim him to the Gentiles,
I did not immediately consult flesh and blood,
nor did I go up to Jerusalem
to those who were Apostles before me;
rather, I went into Arabia and then returned to Damascus.
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to confer with Cephas
and remained with him for fifteen days.
But I did not see any other of the Apostles,
only James the brother of the Lord.
(As to what I am writing to you, behold,
before God, I am not lying.)
Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
And I was unknown personally to the churches of Judea
that are in Christ;
they only kept hearing that “the one who once was persecuting us
is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
So they glorified God because of me.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY: LK 10:38-42
From the Gospel according to Luke
Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”
27th TUESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Lk 10:38-42)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
The Word of God in today's Gospel recounts the story of Jesus visiting the home of Martha and Mary. The image of Mary sitting at the Lord's feet listening to His teachings, while Martha is busy serving. Through these two images, Jesus wants to teach humanity what kind of work pleases God.
God says, that listening to God's words and putting them into practice is the priority work that God is always pleased with.
He calls on everyone to be awake to walk on the path of light according to God's teachings; Do not remove the Word of God from our life, because Satan always wants to lure humans away from God, Satan does not want people to listen to God's teachings, so that they can lead humans to follow their path and follow their instructions to live in sin and the passions of the world.
Therefore, the Word of God today teaches everyone to be wise in choosing what Mary did, which is to come to God, stay with God to listen to His teachings, and put them into practice in life.
He also emphasizes that we must place God above all things, listening to God's teachings above all things, because only when we listen and practice according to God's teachings will all actions be carried out according to His will.
On the contrary, if anyone does not stay with God to listen to and meditate on God's teachings, then Satan will infiltrate and attack our actions, leading us to follow their own path.
God also calls on everyone to be wise to come to God and spend time with Him. He always waits for us every moment to come to Him so that He can enlighten and teach us what to do; never forget God, never leave Him. That is what God wants from everyone.
Jesus came to earth to become a human being.
He not only accompanied humanity, but He always longed and called on humans to come to God, listen to His teachings, and put them into practice.
Like the image of Jesus, He is a powerful God, but He also spends time with God the Father, listens to God the Father's teachings, and then brings God the Father's words to teach humanity, so that humans can live according to the path of light that God the Father wants to call us on.
Today's Word of God calls on all humanity to look at and follow the example of living according to the image of Jesus, who is always closely united with God the Father to listen to God the Father's teachings; and the image of Mary who knows how to spend time sitting at the feet of the Lord to listen to His teachings and put them into practice in her life.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
