“And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Lk 11:9)
FIRST READING: GAL 3:1-5
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians
O stupid Galatians!
Who has bewitched you,
before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?
I want to learn only this from you:
did you receive the Spirit from works of the law,
or from faith in what you heard?
Are you so stupid?
After beginning with the Spirit,
are you now ending with the flesh?
Did you experience so many things in vain?–
if indeed it was in vain.
Does, then, the one who supplies the Spirit to you
and works mighty deeds among you
do so from works of the law
or from faith in what you heard?
GOSPEL OF THE DAY: LK 11:5-13
From the Gospel according to Luke
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Suppose one of you has a friend
to whom he goes at midnight and says,
‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey
and I have nothing to offer him,’
and he says in reply from within,
‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked
and my children and I are already in bed.
I cannot get up to give you anything.’
I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves
because of their friendship,
he will get up to give him whatever he needs
because of his persistence.
“And I tell you, ask and you will receive;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives;
and the one who seeks, finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
What father among you would hand his son a snake
when he asks for a fish?
Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg?
If you then, who are wicked,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit
to those who ask him?”
27th THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME-Gospel (Lk 11:5-13)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
In today's Gospel, the Word of God tells the story of a man who came to his friend's house to borrow bread in the middle of the night, and his friend helped him because of his persistence.
It is through that that God wishes to teach humanity about persistence when praying to Him.
God wants to tell humans that whenever someone prays and asks God the Father for something, just believe that He will give it to them.
He also emphasizes that that person must be persistent and patient in his prayers to God the Father.
As in today's Gospel, the image of a man who comes to bother his friend at midnight to borrow bread, and his friend wakes up to get bread for him is because of the persistence and patience of the person who borrowed the bread.
God wants to say that He treats us even better, because He is merciful, kind, and forgiving, and no one in this world has a heart as loving as His.
Therefore, the Word of God today calls on everyone to believe, to have absolute trust in God the Father, to believe that your earnest prayers will be heard, answered, and granted by Him all good things according to His will because He knows what is good and what is bad for humans.
The human role is to follow God's teachings, to patiently ask and knock, and then He will give and open the door for you.
God will fulfill what He has spoken.
Therefore, The Word of God today calls on everyone to always be humble, trust, and believe in the prayers we offer to God.
He will be moved with compassion by the prayers of those who have a sincere heart, and with absolute trust in God's loving Providence.
He also said that a wicked father still knows how to give good things to his children, and how much more so is God the Father.
He is rich in mercy and He has full authority over all creatures.
He will always give the best things to those who ask Him.
Therefore, today, if we want to have good things, want to have peace and happiness in the loving arms of God, then run to His mercy, ask Him to bestow upon us all blessings, and ask Him to grant us the ability to do the will of God the Father, may He send the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us, so that we know how to live in such a way that pleases and pleasing to God the Father.
Today, God teaches everyone that whoever is wise should run to Him and call upon Him, rely on His mercy; ask Him to bestow blessings, and ask Him to expel Satan and free our souls from Satan's captivity and return to God.
He will bestow the best things on the soul of the one who knows to trust and persistently call upon God.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
